Hey there everyone, I've joined this board because I just picked up HD collections. I used to play B3 a lot when I was younger and I'm glad they did an HD remake. Now that I'm an established fighting game player and all...*cough* I've come back to learn this game. From playing it briefly the past few days I can see the remnants of a decent combat system. I'm no expert or anything, but I like to learn fighting games and figure out how they work. (+ I got wind of a new BT3/IW like DBZ title and I'm pumped)

Welp, to start things off. My name is Colton, I play fighting game competitively, I mainly play TTT2 but I've always been a huge DBZ fan and loved the old games (Without any real knowledge of the system aside from TC's and mashing punches and kicks). In the next few days I'll be posting thoughts/idea's I'm having and if anyone wants to chat/share Idea's just post up! Also, if anyone plays TTT2 I'm always down for games or talking about that as well.

I look forward to getting all my thoughts and opinions shot down! Wooh!

Nice to have you on board. Its great to have more players see the competitive aspect of the Budokai series. If you have any questions then feel free to ask. I'll try to answer to the best of my ability. Hopefully others will too. I myself feel that B3 was a strong title gameplay-wise for its time.

The Budokai series has experienced its ups and downs really in terms of innovation. If you are really interested in the combat system then I would suggest, if you have a PSP, that you hunt around for the Shin Budokai games. Shin Budokai - Another Road (AKA Shin Budokai 2) is probably hands-down the most refined iteration of the Budokai series of games. I would say that in terms of balance it loses out to IW world however, but they did take the game mechanics in and interesting direction so the game is worth picking up.

Hey there (Anyone reading this) I will be posting video's and doing more research in the next few days. I will be compiling it here in this thread, I am still a newbie when it comes to DBZ games, so please let me know if any of my findings are wrong/stupid/not useful. Also, keep in mind that all of this work is based on fighting a human opponent. (Beating up on a computer is never fun unless I'm trying to get consistent with combo's or something of that nature)

The character I am using right now is Broly (All information so far is LSSJ only)

-=-=-=-=-=-
-=| Broly |=-
-=-=-=-=-=-

P reach: 25 (Base) 35 (LSSJ) speed:4
-------------------------------------------------------

To start things off I'll say; I think Broly's standing P is ridiculously good. It's got solid range, it's delay-able, hit confirmable, cancellable (with pp- or pppp-) and can generate some strong mind games. It does one have one drawback (Which in turn actually makes it much more effective) it leaves you at disadvantage (If using P or PP-). Block, hit cancel, it doesn't matter, once you commit to one of it's options, while still being safe, your opponent can start an offense. Here's my breakdown (I'll be posting up video's later today of these situations)

P. Opponent blocks. (Point blank range)

Broly:Buffer << Opponent: Immediately starts mashing P's (While in blockstun)
Result: Broly get's hit, they get a jab combo into w/e

Broly: Delay 2nd P Opponent:Immediately starts mashing P's (While in blockstun)
Result:They are counterhit by the 2nd P into full combo

Broly:Buffer << Opponent: Immediately starts mashing K's (While in blockstun)
Result: I backdash away and whiff punish with <k+g into full combo.

Broly:Buffer << Opponent: Uses P+K (Or a move with hyper armor)
Result: I backdash away and whiff punish with <k+g into full combo

Broly:Buffer << Opponent:Does nothing.
Result:I gain a small amount of meter, gain better position (Due to Broly's superior range to most character)
Also, I am not punished. They gain an even smaller amount of meter, are put in a bad position and take a small amount
of chip damage.

See the trend here? after blocking my P. If I buffer a backdash, and they don't use their own neutral P's
I can backdash away from any move they commit to and I'm able to whiff punish. But, if they choose to start mashing
P's (They have to start immediately after the jab, if they wait whatsoever, their P's will whiff and I can punish those as well)
They will catch Broly before he can initiate the backdash. The 'juice' to the mix-up is the fact I can delay my 2nd P to BEAT their attempt at catching my backdash resulting in me counterhitting them and getting a combo.
--------------------------------------- <----- Cut off point.

Broly Combos:

Capsules: LSSJ, Blaster Shellx1, Gigantic Pressx1 (Numbers go up higher if capsules change and such, just wanted to do his base damage)

All combo's are done against a Cell (Normal/No Capsules) who has just been taunted to 0 Ki (3 bar base)
(Keep in mind the fact that if they have a higher baseline then 3 they are able to gain Ki at a faster rate while taking more damage: Defense is at 94% when combo begins)

Starter: <K+G

<K+G, k,k,k,k- <P+K <P+K p,p,p,p,e [Blaster Shell] 12 Hits, 1049 Damage.
Ki regen
Broly: 3 1/2 Bars (Below baseline) 1 Bar (Over Baseline)
Opponent: .95 Bar (Almost one bar, below baseline)

This is my first time writing up anything like this, was it easy to understand? Did it make any sense? Please let me know. I'll be getting those video's later when I have the time so you don't have to just read it, you can see the examples themselves.

lol, sadly, it is 2 late Sad. I was getting really hyped for DBZ, (Even had a FT27 for 100$ with a friend who thought he was hot shit xD)

I come home the other day and my copy had been traded in so my brother could get a new game... Kinda sucks. But with many TTT2 tournies and majors on the horizon I can't shell out another 50$ and spend time away from TTT2. If I get my hands on another copy, or if I hear more of an ETA for the new game I'll def be back.

I'll still poke around here when I'm bored...or If I fire up an emulator and think of something.
