Post by KingDiamond on Sun Jan 24, 2010 2:51 am

Anyone do any reading recently? Anyone have any reading suggestions? Post your books.

Im currently reading "Napoleon and Hitler a comparative biography" by Desmond Seward. Its pretty awesome so far.

Recent books:

Autobiography of Eric Clapton
"The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe
"Gonzo, the Story of Hunter S. Thompson" by someone I forgot.

Books I read a while ago that are awesome:

When the Lion Feeds
Jurassic Park
Dune
Old Man's War
All of the "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" books
My Side of the Mountain
Weaveworld by Clive Barker (one of my favorite books)

Hunter S. Thompson-
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Generation of Swine

Robert A. Heinlein-
Red Planet
Methuselah's Children
Variable Star originally by Heinlein but never printed. Adapted by Spider Robinson.

Stephen King-
Rose Madder
Pet Semetery
Firestarter (sucked)
Black House
The Tommyknockers

Plus many more from my school days that I cant remember

The Outsider by Albert Camus (Also called The Stranger)
The Fall by Albert Camus

The book that I'm reading for fun though...

to Hero- I personally couldnt finish the lord of the rings. Got about halfway thru Return of the King and never picked it back up. Then the movies came out and completely ruined the whole thing. Man those hobbits got close to each other when they talked.

To Soriphen- Ive heard of Albert Camus but have no idea what his stuff is like. Would you recommend his work?

To anyone who reads this topic I would strongly recommed the Hitchhikers Guide series. great stuff and can be read quickly due to the humor.

LMAO! "Man those hobbits got close to each other when they talked." I lolled so hard.

Anyway, yeah, I recommend reading Albert Camus...well, if you want to know about existentialism and absurdism...Though, I think The Fall is my favourite from him...very good first person narrative.

Hitchhikers Guide...yeah, I was thinking of reading those classics...Maybe I should Lol. I'm up for some humor.

I believe thats one of his games but his most famous would be "Undying". He's also the creator of the Hellraiser stuff and has done comics aswell. He's a pretty creative dude lol.

Re: Books

Post by KingDiamond on Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:52 am

So speaking of Clive, I just finished "The Great and Secret Show" and am feeling a bit disappointed. "Weaveworld" was one of the best books I ever read so maybe my expectations were to high but o-well. All in all it was a decent book but it seemed like it was missing character. The people in weaveworld seemed like I knew them personally by the end of the book. This one just kinda threw them about hoping the settings would carry them. So now I'm giving the sequal to TG&SS, "Everville" a go to see if it gets better. So far its been cool but we'll see.
