What about Budokai Tenchaichi series?
There is certainly lots to talk about with these games, T3 in particular.

I do find it odd that a community called Dragonball Competitive doesn't have a forum for the Tenkaichi series, what with Tenkaichi 3 being arguably the most balanced free-flying DBZ fighter they ever made. Raging Blast is so broken it hurts.

BT3 is just as bad as RB1...but that's beside the point. RB has forums because this forum was made around the time Burst Limit was about to drop. That's the only reason BT3 doesn't have a 100% dedicated forum.

Atrocious doesn't fully describe it, either...assalicious is waaaaay more fitting.
Re: What about Budokai Tenchaichi series?
T3 was awesome I used to play that game all the time, but it's not as challenging as Budokai. Tenkaichi everything is pretty simple, the only thing that is hard to master isn't even necessary like the Z Counter Up and Square, it's pretty much useless since you can just do a normal teleport.

Thales, ZC2 was actually broken as shit. It's a combo breaker with zero limits other than a tight window.
BT3 was bad because of how stupidly defensive the game was. I'm not against a defensive game, but BT3 was so defensive it was literally the only way to actually play the game.

Yeah ZC was outrageously broken
But on an honest note, Tenkaichi, more specifically T2 and Rb1, had the potential to be reay good fighters. it was just the little things that needed improving an polishing to make the games perfect. If spike[and to a certain extent dimps] took the time to test their games, they would easily surpass the likes of street fighter. And this is coming form someone that plays all of those games at a high level.

The stuff you could ZC was downright absurd. It completely threw a lot of stuff out of the window, like throw techs and the regular TC. Kind of makes me think of how Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 felt. I only played that once over a friend's house, but I got the feeling that attacking left little to no reward, which playing defensively let you do some really ridiculous stuff, like free supers from the back.

Spike potentially being better than Street Fighter? You're dreaming boy, and SF isn't even that good it's just a popular series.

Re: What about Budokai Tenchaichi series?
Yes, spike potentially better than SF lol. Really like you said, SF is just a popular game, when in reality, it's best game, Sf3, was pretty bad, it threw out all of it's old strats, projectiles and jumpins were useless because of parrying, even anti airs were kind of sucky. And the game basically boiled down to who could hit confirm their super the fastest, leaving not a lot of room for depth from a competitive standpoint.
Now when spike made Rb1, they balanced ZC, and attemepted to tweak other things tht were broken. If they went throught the trouble of testing and fixing up those little things[like balancing out the cancel set, Piccolos sig ect] than yes, the game would be at least as good as SF.
[on a side note, capcom is really full of shit, they said they extensively tested MvC3, yet Captain America has a braindead easy infinite.'

Tenkaichi's engine is inherently flawed due to the movement, but it could be made competitive if they improved how much of a factor things like spacing and zoning were. The entire system is void of that. They need to entirely revamp the combat system before it becomes good. The same could be said about Budokai.
...Lol. ST was getting pretty nice tourney numbers even 10 years after release. SF in general ate the fuck outta people's pockets. A game doesn't do that if it's not good. It collects dust in that case. But that's another discussion for another day.Brohan wrote:SF isn't even that good it's just a popular series.

Re: What about Budokai Tenchaichi series?
I said that in the post before that one lol. Anyway i think we can all agree that Mvc3 will never reach Mvc2 status.

Re: What about Budokai Tenchaichi series?
I dunno, MvC2 was good for playing with friends and stuff but playing in serious business mode was boring. Same 6 characters all day every day.
I find it amazing how many "hardcore" fighting fans stick with SF and stuff when Virtua Fighter is designed specifically for that level of play and does absolutely nothing to appeal to the casual audience. Boring characters, stages, story. Boring. Everything is dull. If you appreciate a full roster of well balanced characters and a solid fight system then the game suddenly becomes interesting.
That's the problem with "pro" gaming. Games are chosen because of popularity rather than being a well balanced and tested form of competition. Boo.

Re: What about Budokai Tenchaichi series?
The reason the popular games are chosen is because they bring in money. Why would you get serious about a game that doesn't bring in money? It's just a waste of a tourney slot at that point.
VF is so unpopular because of just that and the stigma that it's insanely difficult to play in comparison to nearly everything else. But moreso because it's a visually boring game. Plus, SF is VERY easy to follow on-screen in comparison, which makes it way more interesting to watch. Anyone can look at SF and know what the hell is going on exactly.
MvC2, it's very easy to mention the game only comes down to a small group of characters when you don't know much about the game. There's too many characters, team combinations, and strats to disregard completely. That game is never about just 5-6 characters because thinking of it like that just gets you randomed out by a team you don't even know how to deal with.

Double Wolvie Gambit is the best mid tier team imo
