Some casuals with Megasobi:

Cooler vs. Raditz (Yes, that says Raditz)
Goten vs. Goku
Future Trunks vs. Bardock

Bardock vs. Raditz

Lots of TODs on both sides. I'm impressed that Sobi actually brought out Raditz's potential. TBH I never really gave him the time of day until now. That nullifying <K starter is pretty legit and Raditz is capable of killing off a clean hit a la Goten.

I need to get back into this game. I'm getting my boys back in Cleveland hyped to it.

This is conclusive video proof that RTUs make you 5x more usable than you'd normally be.

It helps that Raditz has a decent set of options, too.

Cooler's divekick is awesome, too. Guard break only punishable by CH KBs and DMs.

Some general thoughts on the matches (both onscreen and off):

  • While there are a decent number of usable characters in the game, the hard match-ups in this game are really tough. Goten vs. Goku for example was pretty painstaking, as getting a clean hit with all that priority flying around requires a lot of work. It's not impossible, mind you (I was able to capitalize on a few mistakes here and there), but it ain't easy.

  • I always wondered if Raditz had any potential, but I never really spent much time with him in the lab. I'm impressed that Sobi was able to work with him the way he did; Raditz has some nice stuff and is fully capable of killing off of a clean hit.

  • Cooler's dive kick is REALLY good, to the point that I don't like transforming with him because I'll lose it. It nullifies while he's in the air charging it, and there are some really evil mindgames you can perform with it.

  • I'm seriously considering picking up Pikkon. I need a top-tier character to be good with and he's pretty fun. It'll definitely make fighting Sobi's Goku more interesting.

  • I think Piccolo has some hidden potential, too. He lacks in chains, but both his P+K and >P+K are very good for controlling space and keeping people out. His SBC RTU has lightning-fast startup (faster than SK, even) and can be used in a variety of situations.

  • If anything else I think it's interesting how much the pace of the game changes when you're playing as different characters. When you're running someone like Goku who can elbow his way out of situations the pace of the game is pretty frantic. On the other hand when you have a matchup like Bardock v. Raditz, the game is a lot slower and methodical because while both characters may not be priority monsters, they can kill in one hit, and you have to put serious thought into everything you do. I'm starting to see how traditional FG footies are represented in IW.

Pikkon scares me. I feel like he can just bully Goku with that P starter.
But at the same time I do need a new matchup to learn...

Piccolo, I agree, has potential. His damage sucks now, and his offensive presence isn't that great anymore, but he's essentially Dhalsim properly translated to a Budokai game.

I think now that it's more known that E moves eat up null armor, other characters can shine, especially those who have really good KBs. This makes meter management so much more of a big deal than before, and dash KBs are really useful.

E is pretty much the universal counter to priority, it's just a matter of how well you can convert off of a counter hit blast. One thing I love about Goten is that his HS hits twice, so it's all but guaranteed to land in that situation. Ki blasts are extremely important for this game's footsies, but I definitely agree that ki management takes a front seat. It's so easy to lose track of your ki when fishing for a CH ki blast setup, and it's easy to land a clean hit only to get set up for an infinite or the like.

As far as Piccolo and other unique characters go (like Trunks), I think it's interesting that defensive play-styles are actually usable in this game. At first glance Budokai seems like pure, unadulterated rushdown, but the defensive options of Piccolo and Trunks are strong enough that the cast has to respect them. Kind of wish there were more players so we could see the metagame grow more.

Defensive player used to be pretty strong in B1/2 but by the time B3 came out offensive styles simply outpaced them too much not to mention that alot of characters with defensive starters also tended to have better offensive ones.In IW we got a bit of a resurgence in defensive styles with guys like GTV or even fellers like Bardok that need to be defensive until they can win decisively

I said a while back that Piccalo wasent completely terrible he just needs to be played a little differently to get the most out of him.I still wouldnt say hes "good" per say but hes got a few neat tricks.H has some pretty good guard breaks and from a pretty good distance out and those are easily converted in SBC.A pair of transformations certainly also helps

First 3 videos of my Z Difficulty Dragon Mission series...

Training
Saiyan Saga
Frieza Saga

I believe I may be a first at doing this, since I'm including every character's fight, survival, and minigame on Z. Tico's 'Ultimate' run is just the 1st run (99% Goku), and has Very Easy mini-games. DBZAnto was on Normal and IIRC skipped some characters.

Be prepared for ironically poor Goku gameplay (compared with my good-to-awesome low-tier gameplay). I recorded Goku's parts first while I was still a bit nubby (Kid Gohan also suffers similarly, but he's hard to use anyway with his awkward stun recovery).

Cell Saga will be a while, so feel free to watch them little-by-little, since they're long videos.
You can click the 'watch later' button in the bottom right of the YouTube player, to save videos you're not done with.
Enjoy. ^.^b

One of the sets I had with Sobi that never got uploaded. It's me experimenting with Piccolo against his Syn Shenron. Piccolo feels so incomplete. Sad

Hmm not bad but you could use some work on your approach. Goku shouldnt be played like old style games use >P,K,K that much since the Elbow trumps it for anything save Ki building and canceling itno a Transformation guard break. Bardok shouldnt be attacking just looking to start a HP infinite he should be fishing for a hit he could convert into a combo without leaving himself open THEN worry about whether he can win it in one shot or not
